Amboseli National Park
1 Day Safari
Amboseli National Park
Amboseli National Park is located 210km south of Nairobi. It has an endless underground water supply filtered through thousands of feet of volcanic rock from Kilimanjaro’s ice cap, which funnel into two clear water springs in the heart of the park crowned by Mount Kilimanjaro Africa's highest peak, the Amboseli National Parks is one of Kenya's most popular parks. The name "Amboseli" comes from a Maasai word meaning "salty dust", and it is one of the best places in Africa to view large herds of elephants up close. Nature lovers can explore five different habitats here ranging from the dried-up bed of Lake Amboseli, wetlands with sulphur springs, the savannah and woodlands.
Best time to visit: Wildlife viewing is at its finest in the dry season, when animals can easily be seen around water sources. The best months are from June to September, although it is possible to visit Amboseli National Park any time. Wildlife watching is usually more difficult during the long rains (March to May) and the short rains (November to December). During these months, rainfall might restrict game drives and the grass tends to be very tall.
Wildlife to see: There are animals that include buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard, baboon, zebra, wildebeest, cheetah and 100 mammal species. There are also 400 migratory and endemic bird species.
