Frequently Asked Questions (Tanzania Destinations)

Do I need special travel insurance to go to Tanzania?

Yes. At Safari Adventures Company, we strongly advise all visitors particularly those with special requirements to take out full travel insurance prior to arrival. Your insurance policy should include medical evacuation, care due to disability, and loss or damage to assistive devices. If you're participating in our safari or trekking trips, please ensure that your insurance policy covers adventure activities.

What emergency facilities are available in Tanzania?

Tanzania’s emergency medical facilities can be limited, particularly in remote safari areas. Safari Adventures Company partners with 24/7 emergency services, including AMREF Flying Doctors, for air evacuation and urgent care. We always travel prepared with communication tools and emergency protocols.

Are you collaborating with Doctors without Borders (MSF)?

Although Doctors without Borders is present in Tanzania, they are there for humanitarian assistance and not for tourist support. At Safari Adventures Company, we use private hospitals in Arusha, Moshi, and Dar es Salaam for our clients. We recommend staying in contact with your doctor back home and bringing your medical records.

Are safari vehicles adapted for disabled travelers?

Yes. Safari Adventures Company has tailored safari vehicles that are equipped with ramps, wheelchair accessibility, and large doors for your comfort. We recommend booking earlier so that we may adequately prepare to meet your requirements.

Can travelers bring medication into Tanzania?

Yes. Bring a doctor's prescription and keep all medications in their original packaging. Be conscious of the fact that certain medications are restricted. We suggest contacting the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA) ahead of time or requesting Safari Adventures Company to help facilitate the verification process.

Are attractions and hotels accessible?

Accessibility varies greatly. Safari Adventures Company chooses partner lodges and camps with accessible rooms, ramps, and wheelchair-accessible facilities, especially in the larger parks and towns. We pre-check accessibility details for each traveler beforehand.

Are guides trained to assist travelers with special needs?

Yes. Safari Adventures Company has guides who are trained to assist travelers with mobility, hearing, or visual disabilities. Just be sure to ask for this service when you book so that we can provide the correct guide.

How does weather impact travel for those with special needs?

The climate in Tanzania is sometimes hot, humid, and unpredictable, especially from March–May and November, which are rainy months. Safari Adventures Company offers planning assistance to make sure you go equipped with the proper protection, hydration systems, and mobility tools for all grounds and weather.

Can medical items such as incontinence pads be found in Tanzania?

There are basic medical supplies in Arusha, Moshi, and other major towns. Nonetheless, certain items (such as catheter kits, adult diapers, etc.) might be restricted. It is advisable for you to bring your own or have us pre-arrange with a local vendor.

Are gluten-free or allergy-friendly meals served? Can I drink tap water?

Safari Adventures Company makes special meal arrangements for guests who have dietary requirements such as gluten-free, diabetic, or allergy-sensitive diets simply inform us beforehand. Tap water is not potable outside of major towns. We supply purified or bottled water during your safari.
